Chairman & CEO, PANTHERx Rare; and Associate Dean for Business Innovation, University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy

With more than three decades of executive experience creating and developing successful medical and pharmaceutical businesses, Dr. Gordon J. Vanscoy is a leader in the health care industry. He is the founding Chairman and CEO of PANTHERx Rare, the nation’s leading rare disease and orphan drug-focused pharmacy headquartered in Pittsburgh. He is also the Chairman and CEO of RareMed Solutions, the nation’s only pharmacy hub focused purely on patients living with rare and devastating diseases. Prior to his work with PANTHERx and RareMed, Dr. Vanscoy developed 7 health care companies while concurrently serving the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy in various leadership capacities for over 31 years. Today, Dr. Vanscoy serves as Pitt’s Associate Dean for Business Innovation and Associate Professor of Pharmacy and Therapeutics.

Dr. Vanscoy received his Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy and Master of Business Administration degrees from the University of Pittsburgh and received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from Duquesne University. He completed an ASHP-accredited residency at The Mercy Hospital of Pittsburgh and a faculty fellowship in geriatrics at the University of Pittsburgh Geriatric Education Center.

In addition to his business accomplishments, Dr. Vanscoy has an impeccable academic record with a multitude of scientific publications, research grants, and educational awards. He also serves on several boards of directors, including the board of the National Association of Specialty Pharmacy.

Senior Vice President, Strategy

Dr. Robert Snyder received both his Doctor of Pharmacy degree and his Master of Business Administration from the University of Pittsburgh. At PANTHERx Rare, Dr. Snyder currently serves as Senior Vice President of Strategy, where he is responsible for maintaining PANTHERx’s sustainable growth and strategic focus.

Dr. Snyder has experience in specialty pharmacy with a variety of disease states including, Movement Disorders, Cystic Fibrosis, Hepatitis C, Oral Oncology, Nephrology, Enzyme Replacement Therapies, and various other Rare Diseases. Since the launch of PANTHERx in 2011, Dr. Snyder has helped lead the organization through many periods of growth. He has been responsible for a variety of clinical, operational, business development, and Six Sigma projects that continue to provide value to the organization. His unique background and breadth of experience with strategic partners will continue to secure the future of PANTHERx.

Richard J. Faris, Ph.D., R.Ph.

Senior Vice President, Head of Pharmacy

Richard Faris joined PANTHERx Rare as Senior Vice President and Head of Pharmacy, responsible for pharmacy operations, clinical and patient engagement services, implementation, innovation, and quality.

Prior to joining PANTHERx, Dr. Faris was VP for Clinical Strategy and Services with DaVitaRx. He previously served as Accredo’s Vice President for Clinical Services and Health Outcomes Solutions, and Medco’s/ESI’s National Practice Leader for Rare and Specialty Therapeutics. Dr. Faris served on the executive committees for DaVita Rx and Accredo. He has held leadership positions in health systems, industry, and academia.

Dr. Faris received his Pharmacy degree from the University of Mississippi. He then completed a two-year Masters/residency program with the University of Minnesota and received his Ph.D. from the University of Florida. Dr. Faris has numerous national and international publications, chapters, abstracts, posters, and invited presentations. He recently served as a Board Member for the Pharmacy Quality Alliance.

Susan Faust

Senior Vice President, Head of Markets

Susan Faust joined PANTHERx as Senior Vice President and Head of Markets, responsible for rare and orphan pharmaceutical sales, business development, contracting, and payer sales and relations. She has more than three decades of experience, most recently as part of the executive team of Diplomat with responsibilities for specialty infusion, payer strategies, account management, and business development. Faust also held leadership positions at Accredo and Medco, where she was responsible for the development and execution of the strategic payer initiatives including contracts administration and payer reporting.

Faust served on the Board of Governors of PCMA, acted as a faculty speaker for Pinsonault and Zitter Group, and has presented at Medco Symposiums. She received a Bachelor of Arts from St. Norbert College and a Certificate de Commerce and d’Industrie from the Universite de Paris (Alliance Francaise).

William Valenta, Jr.

Senior Vice President, Head of Business

In this role, Bill Valenta is responsible for overseeing all aspects of PANTHERx’s daily business activities and standard operating procedures, while fostering PANTHERx’s unique company culture.

Prior to joining PANTHERx, Valenta served as the Associate Vice Provost for Professional Programs at the University of Pittsburgh, where he focused on supporting the strategic development of Pitt’s professional degree programs across the campus. He previously served as Assistant Dean for MBA Programs at the University of Pittsburgh’s Katz Graduate School of Business, working his way up to become the Assistant Dean of the Executive MBA Worldwide Program and The Center for Executive Education. Before taking his first position as part of the Katz Graduate School of Business, Bill was the Assistant Chair of the University of Pittsburgh’s Department of Chemistry from 2005-2007.

Prior to his career in academia, Bill was a 22-year member of the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police, where he held multiple positions, eventually retiring with the rank of Commander. Bill holds a Bachelor of Science from Point Park University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Pittsburgh.

Timothy Davis Pharm.D.

Senior Vice President, Special Projects

Dr. Timothy Davis has been building and expanding patient focused pharmacy practices for almost two decades. His experience includes the construction of clean rooms, compounding laboratories, community pharmacies, pharmacy management software, and adherence technology.

Dr. Davis received his Doctor of Pharmacy degree from the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy following a Bachelor’s of Science in Neuroscience from the same University. Upon graduation, he launched and operated a small regional chain of independent pharmacies with a focus on emerging practice trends including immunizations, 340B compliance, and automation innovation. Dr. Davis exited the retail pharmacy community to target his efforts on enabling the culture of PANTHERx to develop with the patient at the center of every business and clinical decision opportunity.

Dr. Davis has been featured in numerous industry publications and cover stories concerning his patient focused use of technology, including Pharmacy Times, Pharmacy Today, America’s Pharmacist, and Drug Topics.

Carlos Correa

Carlos Correa

Senior Vice President, Technology

Carlos Correa currently serves as the Senior Vice President of Technology for PANTHERx Rare. He provides overall leadership and guidance for the organization’s Infrastructure, Systems, and Data Analytics Teams, ensuring the day-to-day availability of technology and data for PANTHERx staff and partners.

Carlos graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a Master of Science Degree in Telecommunications and a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science. He brings over 25 years of technology and systems management experience. This experience includes over 17 years with industry leading healthcare organizations including UPMC Health System/Health Plan, Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield, and Wexford Health Sources.

Both as a technology consultant and inhouse employee, Carlos has managed the implementation and ongoing support of technical infrastructure and systems for campus wide, statewide, and multistate organizations. His extensive healthcare experience includes guiding organizations through Electronic Health Record and telemedicine system implementations and upgrades, managing relationships with partners/vendors, changes in technology direction, and significant staffing and business growth.

Tim Kelly

Tim Kelly joined PANTHERx in November 2017, bringing over 20 years of Finance and Accounting experience, having worked for a Big 4 Accounting firm, publicly traded companies, and a top 25 US based staffing firm. In his previous roles, he has been responsible for consolidating and relocating shared service operations, leading companies through numerous acquisition and integrations, and guiding companies through private equity transactions.

In his role at PANTHERx, Tim is responsible for all financial functions of the company. He recently lead the company’s ERP conversion from QuickBooks to NetSuite. He is skilled in accounting, budgeting, consolidations, negotiating banking relationships, building financial departments, and system implementations.

Tim is a proud life-long resident of Pittsburgh. He graduated from Duquesne University, where he obtained his B.A in Accounting.

Emily Bowman

Senior Director, Culture

Emily Bowman graduated from the Pennsylvania State University with a Bachelor of Science in Biological and Evolutionary Psychology in 2002. She has a unique background in counseling psychology and in applying human resource applications in a healthcare setting. Her career began after graduation as an Addiction Counselor where she provided wellness therapy to a caseload of clients recovering from opiate dependence. Additionally, she spent time as an Employment Specialist working with individuals living with major mental health disorders, assisting and educating her consumer base with gaining and maintaining employment.

In 2006 she began her career with UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside Human Resources where she spent 10 years on the recruitment and employee relations teams. Bowman joined PANTHERx Rare with the responsibility of providing human resources guidance to senior leadership as they underwent the process of implementing best-in-practice HR principles. During her time at PANTHERx, Bowman has streamlined the talent acquisition process and continuously evaluated the changing department structures of PANTHERx while overseeing the creation and reclassification of necessary job roles and functions needed to sustain strategic growth. She created the employee on-boarding program and regulatory HR audit processes. Bowman also developed the company’s first performance management policy and merit increase program. She continues to create and bring necessary structure to all HR policies, procedures, and programs.
